Gateway into history
Most subway stations are just trains, platforms, and people rushing around. But when we recently visited Sung Wong Toi MTR Station in Kai Tak, we quickly realized it's not like the others. This station feels more like a museum than a stop on the line.
Artifacts from the past
During construction, workers found old items from the Song-Yuan period, like coins and ceramics. Ordinary stations give you ticket machines and signs – this one gives you a glimpse of history that's been buried for centuries.
Visitor centre inside the station
Instead of walking past blank walls, here you can step into the Visitor Centre and see the artifacts up close. It's simple but powerful – you're reminded that Hong Kong has stories hidden under the ground we walk on every day.
Daily life meets heritage
We loved how normal commuting mixes with heritage here. You're catching a train, but at the same time you're surrounded by pieces of history. It makes the station feel special, not just another stop.
Why it stands out
For us, Sung Wong Toi Station shows that the MTR can be more than transport. Ordinary stations get you where you need to go. This one lets you pause, look back in time, and feel connected to the city's past.
