Hong Kong Wetland Park
Hong Kong Wetland Park is located in Tin Shui Wai, a town in the Yuen Long District. Tin Shui Wai was developed from rural land into a modern residential area. The wetland itself was preserved during urban development and transformed into an eco-tourism and educational attraction, offering a peaceful retreat within the city.
Visitor Centre
Upon entering the park, you’ll find a visitor centre featuring interactive exhibits and life-sized models of animals. These include marine creatures like turtles, crabs, and seahorses, as well as land animals such as tigers, monkeys, snakes, and deer. The realistic displays are designed to immerse visitors in a natural setting. There’s also a large aquarium showcasing tropical fish and coral—a must-see for aquatic life enthusiasts.
Pui Pui the Crocodile
After exploring the visitor centre, we’ll head outdoors to visit Pui Pui’s Home. Pui Pui is a crocodile that was captured in the Shan Pui River and became a local celebrity due to the rarity of crocodiles in Hong Kong. She now resides in a specially designed enclosure at the park. Spotting her can be a challenge—she often rests quietly under trees, blending in with her surroundings. Bring patience and a keen eye!
Exploring the Wetland
Next, we’ll explore the wetland area, which features a variety of plants, ponds, and wildlife habitats. Follow the walking paths to discover clear-water ponds where you can see fish swimming, and observe native flora along the way. Some zones are restricted to protect bird habitats, but you can view them using built-in telescopes. If you’re into photography, bring a zoom lens to capture stunning shots of birds in flight. There’s also a butterfly garden where you can admire colorful butterflies in a peaceful setting.
